In the early 2000s, velour tracksuits—originated by Juicy Couture—became the go-to uniform for everyone from Britney Spears to Paris Hilton. They exuded a sense of comfort, while also acting as a status symbol and a marker of luxury. It was the dawn of athleisure, and the march was being led by plush sporty sets in bright cotton candy hues.
Twenty years later, as Y2K nostalgia continues to dominate, the tracksuit has made a triumphant comeback. Enter Rihanna, who has always understood the delicate balance between dressing comfortably and looking chic, whether she’s sporting Jacquemus coats that look like cozy robes, or she’s treating striped pajamas as casual daywear.
This time around, the “Diamonds” singer acted as a champion for the tracksuit, with a creamsicle-colored set from Chloé.

For a dinner at Pastis in New York City, the Fenty Beauty founder suited up in a velvet co-ord from the luxury French fashion house. The set consisted of a high-neck, zip-up jacket and matching tracksuit pants with an elastic waistband, both of which were embroidered with the Chloé logo.

Rihanna zipped her jacket partway up, before then hooking the collar to create a keyhole effect. She tied the attached drawstring cords in front, which dangled on top of her golden pendant necklace. Finally, she accessorized with her favorite Amina Muaddi sandals of late, and the alligator-skin handbag she’s been seen carrying around all this week. She also popped on a pair of oversize aviator sunglasses with deep-red lenses for a finishing touch.
When Rihanna gives something her stamp of approval, that’s when you know it’s become peak chic.
