NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — What should New York City parents make of President Donald Trump’s new push on vaccines?
New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin joins PIX on Politics with Dan Mannarino to respond to Trump’s executive order demanding changes to the childhood vaccine schedule recommended by health experts, which emphasizes more time in between shots and even splitting the MMR vaccine into three separate shots.
The commissioner said there is no scientific reason for the shots to not all be given in one visit, and nothing will be changing in New York City. Dr. Martin also points out that there isn’t even a product to make this happen, saying it would take a decade to have enough vaccines for individual mumps, measles, and rubella shots.
Students will continue on the same vaccine schedule to attend city schools, he said.
When it comes to other health changes by the federal government, specifically changes to Medicaid, Dr. Martin says New Yorkers will never miss out on healthcare that is needed.
