A Queens man was arrested for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver in front of a Valley Stream hospital and Nassau County police officers while in their custody.
On August 23 at 2:05 a.m., a 51-year-old man working as an Uber driver was parked in front of Northwell Health Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, located at 900 Franklin Avenue, waiting for his customer to arrive. He was approached by Jonathan Sharrock, who told the driver that his car had broken down and asked to borrow his cell phone. The victim allowed Sharrock to use his cell phone and asked to have it back after he made the call.
Sharrock then allegedly became aggressive and demanded the victim give him a ride instead of the customer he was waiting for. When the victim refused, the defendant allegedly began punching him in the face through the Uber vehicle’s window, causing injuries to his forehead, lip, and chin and damage to the victim’s vehicle during the assault. The defendant was restrained by hospital security until police arrived.
While in police custody, Sharrock allegedly bit and scratched police officers who were securing him to a stretcher before being transported to an area hospital for a medical evaluation. After arriving at the hospital, the defendant made threats to police officers and hospital staff and spit at officers.
Police charged Sharrock, 37, of Laurelton, with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Making a Terroristic Threat, and Harassment in the Second Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on August 23 at First District Court in Hempstead.
