San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO John “Jed” York was arrested on Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, according to court records.
York was booked Sunday morning and released that afternoon on an Own Recognizance bond, the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. York appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday, where he pleaded no contest to both charges.
York was fined $150 for disorderly conduct and $1,000 for possessing criminal tools and sentenced to two days in jail. The fourth-degree disorderly conduct charge was originally listed as engaging in prostitution before it was changed. Court records also ordered a cellular device to be returned to York and $160 that was seized to be forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of an agreement by both parties.
“As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” the 49ers said in a statement. The NFL said in a statement it would review the matter under the personal conduct policy. York’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The personal conduct policy applies to all league members, including owners. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was not disciplined by the NFL after being charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution in 2019, charges that were later dropped. Late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 after pleading guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated in 2014.
York had recently filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle Belluomini York, on May 11, 2026, according to Santa Clara Superior Court documents. The case is still active.
The York family took control of the 49ers in 2000 when, following a corruption case in Louisiana, then-owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. ceded the franchise to his sister, Denise DeBartolo York.
Jed York began working under his father, acting owner John York, in the early 2000s and in 2008 became the franchise’s CEO, which involved running the team’s day-to-day activities. In 2024, he acquired enough of his mother’s stake in the team to become the principal owner.
Jed York and 49ers Enterprises are also co-owners of the Leeds United soccer club in the Premier League and of the Scottish Premiership team Rangers F.C.
The DeBartolos and now the Yorks have long had a presence in the Youngstown, Ohio, area, and York’s parents own a home in the vicinity. The 49ers have twice practiced in the area while preparing for games in the Eastern time zone.
