This original comedy makes its world premiere at the Pershing Square Signature Center in November, and the full cast and creative team have been set.
The King’s Critique, a world-premiere original musical, will come off Broadway to the Pershing Square Signature Center this fall. Performances start November 3 ahead of a November 12 opening.
The King’s Critique is a comedy about a woman and a tenor who team up to thwart a king’s ban against women performing on stage. It is written by Nat Zegree (music and lyrics) and Eric Holmes (book and lyrics), who met and began working on the show while students at Indiana University.
The cast of The King’s Critique off Broadway includes Taylor Iman Jones (Head Over Heels, Six), Justin Collette (Beetlejuice), Donna Lynne Champlin (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Matthew Patrick Quinn (Hadestown), Gabi Carrubba (Dear Evan Hansen), Gilbert L. Bailey II (The Book of Mormon), Bridget Beirne (That Time of the Year), Nick Cearley (The Skivvies), Christian Fary (The Office! A Musical Parody), Timothy Matthew Flores (Here Lies Love), Amy Jo Jackson (Titus Andronicus), Geena Quintos (Here Lies Love), and Justin Sudderth (Mamma Mia!). Kyrie Courter and Ryan Everett Wood are understudies.
The creative team includes director Catie Davis, The creative team includes choreographer Nancy Renee Braun, scenic designer Paul Tate dePoo III, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Cory Pattak, sound designer Jessica Paz, movement director Lorenzo Pisoni, and orchestrators Ian Chan and Nat Zegree, who is also the music director.
The King’s Critique is produced by Art Lab Productions (producer Meg Fofonoff) and Jordan Fisher Theatrics (producer Jordan Fisher), with Anthony Salamon, Ashton Clay, Courtney Peraza, and executive producer Lisa Dozier Shacket.
A 2025 concept album of five songs from the show is currently available to stream.
