Police say NYPD officers confiscated a loaded gun from a 31-year-old man in New Brighton after he was caught spitting on the sidewalk. Kwame Budu of Corson Avenue in New Brighton was arrested on Aug. 2 at about 9 a.m. near Jersey Street and Stanley Avenue after police asked for identifying information. He allegedly ran away and resisted arrest by tensing and flailing his arms. Officers recovered a 9 mm Canik TP9 Elite firearm from his fanny pack. Police say the gun had one bullet in the chamber and a magazine containing 15 rounds. Budu has pleaded not guilty and was arraigned in state Supreme Court in St. George on Aug. 18.
