Police arrested a man Tuesday who allegedly opened fire on a Brooklyn street last week and injured a beloved dog.
According to police sources, the NYPD Warrant Squad cuffed 29-year-old Adrian Benitez at his home on Aug. 25. Benitez had been wanted since Wednesday when he allegedly opened fire in Sunset Park.

Sources say the shooting unfolded at around 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 19 in front of 218 31st St. near Green-Wood Cemetery. Benitez’s girlfriend reportedly texted him that a man was following her.
When he arrived, he allegedly saw an individual near his partner and opened fire.
The bullet missed its target and instead struck a 7-year-old female dog named Honey in the leg as the pooch walked with her owner. The pup was immediately rushed to a vet and was listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Benitez fled the scene following the shooting.
Detectives took Benitez out of the 72nd Precinct in handcuffs on Tuesday morning to face a judge, but he did not answer reporters’ questions about the alleged shooting.
He has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
