The New York Giants released their final unofficial 91-man depth chart on Tuesday in preparation for their final preseason game this Friday night against the New York Jets.

Final roster cuts down to 53 players are due this Sunday, August 30, at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Here are five takeaways from the most recent depth chart.

Wide receiver

Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton are the number ones, with Calvin Austin III and Darnell Mooney the primary backups. No real surprise here. Austin went down with a knee injury that could shelve him for some time. Rookie Malachi Fields, Odell Beckham Jr., and Dalen Cambre are listed in the third tier. That’s seven. If they are going to carry an eighth wideout, they have Isaiah Hodgins, Braxton Berrios, Jalin Hyatt, and Xavier Gipson to choose from. A trade is possible here, but tough decisions loom.

Cam Skattebo is still No. 1 in the pecking order, with Tyrone Tracy Jr., Najee Harris, and Devin Singletary next. Eric Gray, who has shown some life this preseason, and UDFA Damon Bankston round out the field. For those buying into the Tracy-on-the-roster bubble nonsense, he’s going nowhere. He’d be gobbled up on the waiver wire in a second. A lot depends on how quickly Harris can get up to speed to sort out who the No. 2 will be. It’s not a reach to see this staff going with a ‘hot hand’ policy.

Interior defensive line

Rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis is a keeper and has played well, but he’s currently stuck on the third team behind starter D.J. Reader and Leki Fotu. The Giants still have Darius Alexander with the ones, but he hasn’t stepped up as the team has hoped. There’s still time, but this group is still very much fluid. They may add to this group by picking up a waiver after the deadline. The Giants have fifth preference on the waiver wire, and there could be a solid veteran there next Monday.

Cornerback

Rookie Colton Hood is listed as a third-teamer behind Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome II, Deonte Banks and Dru Phillips. At some point, he is going to play and play a lot. The aforementioned group has been bringing it in camp and in the preseason. There’s something to be said for competition, but Hood wasn’t drafted to watch.

Returner

Braxton Berrios is listed as the primary punt returner and backup kickoff returner behind Deonte Banks. That is, if he makes the roster, which looks promising now with Austin getting hurt. Banks will make the roster and be considered, and Xavier Gipson or Eric Gray could also sneak onto the roster and be suited for this role.
