WASHINGTON COUNTY , NY (WRGB) — In this Ask CBS6 segment, a Washington County couple called us after they were racking up fees for trips to New York City; the problem is they weren’t making these trips.

After having trouble getting these fees cleared on their own, I made some calls to see how we could resolve this issue, which was becoming quite expensive

Eva Gregorek and her husband bought a new truck back in May.

“It was a new license plate to him,” said Eva Gregorek.

Afterwards, EZ Pass bills started coming in. The bills were all from the CRZ toll, which stands for congestion pricing in Manhattan.

“We don’t drive down into the city at all. So it was a little surprising,” added Gregorek.

From May until August, the bills racked up, costing upwards of $300.

Reporter Emma Quinn: “What were you thinking or making of these bills that kept showing up?”Eva: “I mean, it’s obvious, but it’s not obvious because the images are so small and so grainy that they send to you that you think, oh, that looks like an H and not an M, or that looks like a seven and not a two.”

After getting nowhere with disputing the bills by mail and receiving a final violation notice, the Gregoreks reached out to CBS6 to get some help.

CBS6 Reporter Emma Quinn emailed the Manhattan Transit Authority (MTA), which operates the E-ZPass tolls.

CBS6 sent them the Gregoreks’ information, so they could do some digging on their end.

A couple of hours later, they emailed us back and let me know the bills were dismissed.

“I did go on the tolls by mail site this morning, and we now have a zero balance with no tolls or fines associated with Vince’s account, which is great,” added Eva. “So I thank you for your help because I don’t know if it would have been resolved if you hadn’t taken that step.”

Now, if the issue hadn’t been resolved or the tolls weren’t paid, the Gregoreks were at risk of having their license suspended or wouldn’t have been able to renew their vehicle registration in the future.

Eva says she learned using the E-ZPass website was more effective than disputing the bills by mail.
