NEW YORK (Gray News) – Country music legend Dolly Parton died Tuesday at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, her family announced.
In honor of the icon, the tower lights on New York City’s Empire State Building turned to a pink sparkle Tuesday at 9:25 p.m.
The dedicated 9:25 p.m. time is symbolic because one of Parton’s most notorious songs is titled “9 to 5”, written for the 1980 film, starring Parton alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
“Dolly was a global cultural icon whose seven-decade career reached generations of fans. Beyond entertainment, Dolly leaves a significant philanthropic legacy through the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of books to children worldwide,” the Empire State Building shared in a social media post.
The building’s LED lighting system is regularly used throughout the year to recognize important holidays and occasions, including Parton’s death in this case.
Parton was 80 years old.
