Three teenagers were killed and two more were injured when the SUV they were riding in slammed into another car on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn Tuesday night, according to the NYPD.
Police officials said one of the teens who died was driving the black Cadillac Escalade eastbound on the busy highway around 11:35 p.m. When they got near exit 1 for 65th street in Bay Ridge, they hit a Honda HRV that was heading the same direction, officials said.
First responders took a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from the Cadillac to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in critical condition. They were all later pronounced dead, according to the NYPD. Officials said one of them had been driving, but they were still investigating which one.
Another 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy from the same car were taken to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition, police said.
The 46-year-old woman who had been driving the Honda and her 44-year-old passenger were both taken to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in stable condition, officials said.
Detectives from the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad were still looking into the incident early Wednesday morning, and officials said it was still unclear exactly what caused the crash.
The teens were not immediately identified as police worked to notify their families.
