GOOD EATS of Maspeth declares Good Food, Good Life, and these sentiments certainly ring true. Voted best diner in Maspeth, Good Eats isn’t just any diner. “It’s a place where quality meets comfort, and where fresh ingredients come together to create satisfying meals,” as stated on their website. I couldn’t agree more, Good Eats is a casual, friendly, family restaurant full of hearty food, and love of community.
Good Eats is run by the Kolombos Family with lots of love from John, Maria, and son, George, who know all their regular customers and has made everyone feel welcome since 2009.
It all starts at 8:00am, seven days a week, when the aroma of freshly brewed coffee lures you in from bustling Grand Avenue. Good Eats cooks up hearty breakfasts every day, to stay or to go, along with freshly baked croissants, muffins, bagels, pastries and more. New York is an egg sandwich town and Good Eats egg “sandos” are the perfect hand-held way to start your day. The All American has eggs, bacon, American cheese, hash browns, ketchup and mayo on a toasted, buttered roll. The Chopped Greek layers scrambled eggs with feta cheese, spinach, tomato and onion on a toasted, buttered bagel of your choice. Sit down for fluffy omelets, eggs Benedict, a stack of light and airy buttermilk pancakes, golden crisp Belgian waffles, or brioche French toast.
Visit for lunch or have your lunch delivered to your home or office. You can order directly from their website or pick up the phone and call them at 718.478.2420 for fast delivery. Good Eats’ freshly tossed salads are oversized and can be shared or enjoyed as a meal. The salmon Caesar salad, cranberry chicken, Cajun chicken, arugula and kale, and the classic Greek or Chef’s salads are just some of the many choices. For lunch or dinner, you must try Good Eats’ homemade spanakopita (spinach pie) made by hand from the family’s recipe. The slice is enormous, offering plenty to share or to take home. Ask about the soup of the day, in addition to classic Matzoh ball and
French onion.
Hefty sandwiches are made to order, such as the BLT, with or without avocado, grilled cheese, and corned beef on rye. The Metropolitan is a specialty sandwich with breaded chicken, bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun with French fries ($18.50). Gilligan’s Island is a fresh cod sandwich with melted American cheese, pickles, and tartar sauce on a soft potato roll with fries. Good Eats’ burgers are house favorites, all made with fresh ground beef, never frozen. The Queens burger is topped with Monterey Jack cheese, hot peppers, mushrooms, and onions while the Woodhaven has avocado, raw onion, and cheddar.
Crispy fried chicken sandos are a new item and I devoured the classic chicken sando made with super moist, marinated chicken breast with its impossibly crispy crust on a soft potato bun with either coleslaw and pickle ($14) or with fries ($18.50). The Dirty Harry chicken sando is dipped in Buffalo sauce then topped with bacon and fresh mozzarella on a potato bun…yum!
Good Eats prepares full dinner entrées and I hear the chicken parm is quite popular. Skirt steak is cooked to order and served with potato and vegetable, as is the roast loin of pork, chicken marsala, or chicken cordon bleu stuffed with Swiss cheese and ham. The chef does a great job with pasta dishes, fresh fish and seafood too, and there’s wine and beer to complement your meal.
Have a milk shake for dessert or any time of day, or a hunk of creamy cheesecake, chocolate layer cake, pound cake with ice cream, fruit pies, or an ice cream sundae. Smoothies and old fashioned egg creams and floats bring back fond memories.
Stop in at Good Eats seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, or anytime snack. They’re open from 8:00am to 8:30pm. For good food, good life, visit Good Eats where American comfort food and some Greek classics make everyone feel good!
