NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Another summer storm is expected to bring heavy rain and potential flash flooding to parts of New York and New Jersey on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the tri-state that will be in effect from 12 p.m. through 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Below is what to know about the timeline of the storm.

What time will the storm start?
There’s a chance showers will begin before 11 a.m. and transition into thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the National Weather Service says.
The storms may slow briefly before picking back up in another round of thunderstorms after 2 p.m., forecasters from the NWS report.
Storms are expected to continue throughout the night until at least 2 a.m. before turning back into light showers that will likely continue through the Friday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.
What areas will be hardest hit?
The heaviest downpours are expected to hit the lower Hudson Valley, northeast New Jersey and the five boroughs of New York City, a briefing from the National Weather Service shows.

Areas with poor drainage and low-lying areas, as well as those along rivers, streams and creeks, could see potential flash flooding.
How much rain with NYC and NJ get?
The storm is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of rain that could peak around 2 inches per hour, NWS says.

New York City’s sewer system is designed to handle up to 1.5 to 1.75 inches of rainfall per hour. As a result, when short but intense periods of rainfall happen, the system can become overwhelmed.
What is the future forecast?
According to the National Weather Service, Friday could bring another round of showers and thunderstorms from early morning until after 2 p.m.
