NEW YORK (PIX11) — Expected storms have caused heavy delays at New York-area airports Thursday morning.

A ground stop was issued at Newark Liberty International Airport and was expected to lift around 11:15 a.m. Departure delays are over an hour, according to the FAA.

LaGuardia Airport was also issued a ground stop that is expected to lift at 11:01 a.m., according to the FAA.

At LaGuardia, delays are up to three hours for departing flights.

FlightAware shows 180 flight delays out of New York City so far this morning.

Travelers are urged to check the status of their flight with their airline.
