Storms moving through the five boroughs Thursday are expected to bring widespread rain, with flooding possible in some areas.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the city until 8 p.m., and a Flood Watch is in effect until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Staten Island specifically is under a Flash Flood Warning until 3:30 p.m. New York City Emergency Management has issued a Travel Advisory for all five boroughs through 11 p.m.
The MTA said there is no Staten Island Railway service between Huguenot and Tottenville in either direction due to flooding near Richmond Valley.
The storms could bring a limited chance for damaging winds and heavy rain.
“If conditions are dangerous, please wait to travel. Never drive through floodwaters,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on social media Wednesday night. “If you’re in immediate danger, call 911. Report downed trees, blocked catch basins and other nonemergency hazards to 311.”
“Our agencies are preparing our streets to clear stormwater quickly, and emergency crews are ready to respond,” he added. “Look out for your neighbors, use caution and stay informed by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.”
The city is advising New Yorkers who live in basement apartments to prepare to move to higher ground in the event of flooding and avoid flooded roads.
