New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani Battles Brooklyn Democrats Over Controversial Rule Change

Zohran Mamdani opposed a Brooklyn Democratic Party rule change approved 21–19, a development affecting how the county chair is selected. The Brooklyn Democratic Party rule change adds more than two dozen voting members to the executive committee, which Mamdani criticized as circumvention of voter intent. Current chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn said the amendments broaden participation, while reformers had backed Julio Peña III to replace her after June victories. The committee will expand to more than 68 members, including newly elected officers and Assembly district representatives.
