New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is looking to CEOs for help advising the Big Apple’s economy.

On Thursday, August 27, the 34-year-old politician revealed he is creating a business advisory council with 15 business leaders, including multiple CEOs, according to a press release on the NYC.gov website.

Some CEOs listed are CEO of Etsy Kruti Patel Goyal, President and CEO of Northwell Health Dr. John D’Angelo, and Founder and CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya.

The outlet reported that the council will meet quarterly with the mayor and Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su “to help shape the city’s next phase of economic growth and innovation.”

“The doors of City Hall are always open to New York’s business leaders, and I look forward to welcoming their experience and strategic guidance as we build a stronger, more dynamic economy,” Mamdani said per the press release. “This council brings together the people building the next generation of New York’s economy — in finance, tech, life sciences, and beyond — to help us double down on what makes this city the best place on Earth to start a company, grow a business, and build a career. We want the most ambitious people in the world to come here, stay here, and build here.”

Su, 57, shared that the council is “focused on strengthening the sectors where New York has a real competitive edge — and on making sure the talent this city produces has every reason to build their future here instead of somewhere else.”

As Globe previously reported, Mamdani is trying to make the city more affordable in part by enacting a pied-à-terre tax on those who own a one- to three-family home in NYC worth more than $5 million, or a condominium or cooperative unit worth more than $1 million that is not their primary residence.

Mamdani also announced plans for city-owned grocery stores in each of the five boroughs that will include “a core basket of everyday groceries” which “will be 30 percent cheaper,” per the NYC.gov website.
