BAY RIDGE — Three teenagers were killed and four others were injured following a crash on the Belt Parkway on Tuesday.
Police said that at 11:35 p.m., Huzayfah Makharesh, 18, was driving a 2002 Cadillac Escalade with four other passengers in the center lane on the eastbound Belt Parkway near 65th Street and Exit 1. He then encountered a slower-moving vehicle and decelerated.
A 2024 Honda SUV driven by a 46-year-old woman couldn’t slow down in time and rear-ended the Cadillac.
Both vehicles lost control and struck the guard rail along the southern side of the roadway. The Cadillac overturned, ejecting the driver and two passengers into the roadway.
Three of the males inside the Cadillac — Makharesh, Abdul Rehman, 16, and Konstantin Gerantidi, 17 — were transported by Emergency Medical Services to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where they were later pronounced dead.
Two other teens inside the vehicle, aged 16 and 18, were taken to Maimonides Medical Center and were reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the Honda and a 44-year-old female passenger were taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn and were also listed in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Investigators said the survivors told police they had just left a gas station and were on their way home.
“The 68th precinct is saddened by the tragic loss of three young lives last night,” the precinct said in a Facebook post. “We extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families. Please drive safely, lives depend on it.”
