Maen’s Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin already proved that the Swedish brand could distil the integrated sports watch into something clean, architectural and genuinely wearable. At 37mm across and just 7.1mm thick, it carved out its own identity without chasing excess. Now, Maen has found another way to showcase the platform by introducing its first permanent collection of natural stone dials. The result is a trio of watches that feel markedly different despite sharing the same restrained design language. Better still, you don’t have to wait to see them in the metal, as all three references have arrived at the Time+Tide Watch Discovery Studios in London and New York.
The case remains exactly as it should. Measuring 37mm in diameter, 47.4mm lug-to-lug and only 7.1mm thick, the Manhattan continues to offer proportions that suit a wide range of wrists while delivering the slim profile that gives the watch its name. The vertically stretched octagonal bezel remains the defining feature, framed by crisp brushing, polished chamfers and a fully integrated bracelet that flows naturally into the case. Despite its elegant proportions, the Manhattan still offers a reassuring 100 metres of water resistance beneath its anti-reflective sapphire crystal, making it every bit as practical as it is refined.
The biggest story, naturally, is the dial choice. Maen has stripped the layout back even further, introducing a new pencil handset and allowing the stone itself to become the focal point. Black Onyx is the minimalist’s choice, presenting an uninterrupted mirror-black surface that almost disappears beneath the crystal until it catches the light. It gives the Manhattan a quietly formal character that works beautifully with the clean architecture of the case. Golden Swan sits at the opposite end of the spectrum, its rich amber and ochre tones creating an organic landscape filled with naturally occurring texture.
No two examples will ever be identical, with each slab of stone producing its own distinctive mix of colour and pattern. Then there’s Snowflake Obsidian, arguably the most visually dramatic of the three. Formed by volcanic activity, its black base is scattered with pale crystalline formations resembling frost or drifting clouds across a night sky. Every dial develops its own composition, meaning each watch carries a one-of-one aesthetic while remaining unmistakably part of the same collection. It’s an approach that feels perfectly suited to the Manhattan’s uncluttered design, allowing nature to provide the detail instead of decorative finishing.
Inside sits the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret D101, a hand-wound calibre chosen as much for its proportions as its performance. Running at 21,600 Vph with around 50 hours of power reserve, it helps keep the Manhattan remarkably slim while rewarding owners with the simple ritual of winding the watch. Flip it over, and the sapphire caseback reveals blued screws alongside Côtes de Genève finishing.
The integrated stainless steel bracelet completes the package, tapering from 24mm at the case to 16mm at the concealed butterfly clasp. Satin brushing dominates the surfaces, while polished chamfers continue the finishing language established by the case. Individually sized links should also make finding the perfect fit refreshingly straightforward.
Natural stone dials continue to enjoy a well-earned resurgence, but they’re rarely paired with proportions this wearable or a case this slim. The Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin already had the fundamentals sorted; these three new dials simply broaden its appeal without changing what made it compelling in the first place.
