An 18-year-old man is dead after a fire broke out Friday evening in a NYCHA building in Brooklyn, according to authorities.
The fire happened at the Albany Houses on Troy Ave. near Prospect Pl. in Crown Heights. Authorities said the fire started on the 12th floor of the 14-story building.
Police confirmed the 18-year-old man died at the hospital.
The call came in at about 7:04 p.m. Friday. Officials said 38 units and about 120 fire and EMS personnel responded.
EMS transported one civilian with serious, life-threatening injuries to Interfaith Hospital, officials said. Authorities later confirmed the person died.
A HazMat response was requested, according to officials. The fire was brought under control by about 7:56 p.m.
Officials are working to determine what sparked the fire. The name of the person who died has not been released.
