Red Deer Polytechnic’s (RDP) Kings and Queens are preparing to hit the court, ice, field and track as the 2026-27 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season gets underway.

RDP Athletics is coming off a strong year, with student-athletes earning four Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association medals and 20 ACAC medals across its programs.

“As the 2026-27 ACAC season quickly approaches, we are excited to continue RDP Athletics’ legacy of excellence in the classroom, during competition and as ambassadors in the community,” said Randy Stewart, RDP’s director of athletics.

Soccer gets things started

The RDP Kings and Queens soccer teams will be the first to begin their seasons, travelling to Calgary on Saturday (August 29) to face the SAIT Trojans.

The Queens enter the season as the defending ACAC and CCAA bronze medalists, while the Kings will look to return to playoff contention.

RDP will also host a number of major events throughout the season, including the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships on October 31 and the opening rodeo of the season at the Benalto Agricultural Society on September 12 and 13.

The Kings volleyball team enters the new campaign as both the defending ACAC and CCAA champions, while the Queens curling team returns as defending national champions.

The Kings and Queens hockey teams will also look to build on ACAC silver-medal performances from last season.

Basketball, futsal, indoor track, dance and cross country will round out a busy 2026-27 campaign for RDP Athletics.

A season of high expectations

With multiple returning champions and medal-winning teams, RDP Athletics says its student-athletes will continue working toward excellence both in competition and in the classroom throughout the new season.
