Police are searching for this suspect who allegedly assaulted a straphanger on a Manhattan train.

Police in Lower Manhattan are searching for a suspect who allegedly used a long-handled gardening tool to assault a fellow straphanger on board an A/C train earlier this month.
According to law enforcement sources, the incident occurred in the vicinity of Fulton Street and Nassau Street on Aug. 9 at around 7:30 p.m. Authorities said the green-thumbed suspect swung the yard implement at the 49-year-old victim, striking him in the hand and legs.
The suspect then fled the train immediately in an unknown direction, while the victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.
It is unclear right now what led to the assault, but police on Sunday released surveillance photos of the suspect, who remains on the lam. He is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 30 years of age, 6 feet tall, with an athletic build, short black hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, black pants, a blue baseball cap and a silver necklace.
So far, no arrests have been made, but the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident was reported to Transit District 2 and the 1st Precinct, which reported a 28% increase in felony assaults year-to-date, increasing from 100 last year to 128 in 2026 through Aug. 23. Meanwhile, total crime for the precinct is on a downward trend, with a 2% year-to-date decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
