It is with profound sadness that the family of John H. Marsh announces his passing on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the age of 63. John was born on August 28, 1963, in Richmond Valley, Staten Island, New York, to William and Mary Marsh. He was the youngest of six children and is survived by his brothers William (Priscilla), Peter, Charles (Debbie) and his sisters Kathy (Tom) Dowd and Margie Costello.
A proud graduate of Tottenville High School, John dedicated his life to public service, joining the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) in 1986. During his distinguished 28-year career, he courageously assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero following the events of September 11, 2001. He retired from the department in 2014.
Beyond his professional service, John was a pillar of the Tottenville community, universally recognized by neighbors as he drove through town in his signature red pickup truck. He possessed a lifelong passion for automotive repair, generously volunteering his time and skills to help friends and family. Known for his selflessness, John lived his life in service to others, frequently anticipating the needs of those around him and offering assistance without hesitation. Further demonstrating a deep commitment to helping others, he regularly played in yearly charity golf events and provided snow plowing services for Tottenville residents during winter storms. Above all, he was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide a safe, loving, and supportive foundation for his children and grandchildren.
John will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Deborah; their children, John (Crystal), Joseph (Stephanie), Justin, Brandon (Gabrielle), and Dayna; and his cherished grandchildren, Gemma, Michael, Logan, Lily, Serena, Lochlan, Parker, Lorelei, and Eleanora.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation periods on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 7396 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10307. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
