One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a plane crash Sunday afternoon in the town of Enfield, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement says the plane’s owner, David Kornreich, 52, was killed, while his passenger, a 31-year-old man, is hospitalized.
The sheriff’s office says the plane took off from Ithaca Airport at 11:24 a.m. and lost contact with the tower just after noon.
They also say a witness called them at 12:35 p.m. reporting the crash in the 100 block of North Applegate Road.
That caller also told the sheriff’s office that the plane was showing signs of having a mechanical issue before going down.
The sheriff’s office says the plane was a 1977 Lake model LA-4-200.
