A 41-year-old man was stabbed at the corner of W49th Street and 8th Avenue just before 9pm on Tuesday night, prompting an NYPD Level 1 mobilization in Hell’s Kitchen.

Officers from Midtown North responded to a 911 call at 8:49pm and found the victim with a single stab wound to the left side of his back. He was taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where police said he was conscious, alert and in stable condition. He is expected to recover.

Initial reports indicated that the suspect fled west along W49th Street toward 9th Avenue.

Video from the scene showed the southeast corner of Worldwide Plaza, including the entrance to the W50th Street subway station, cordoned off with police tape as officers investigated the crime.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
