Mr. Nancy’s – a bar located by the Seneca Avenue stop in Ridgewood – hosted a comedy show on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Hosted by comedians Evan Lazarus, Erik Martini, Amelia Ritthaler and Charlie Flynn, the comedy show tackled various topics within the Queer sphere, including dating, hook-ups and identity. The show is typically held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month and is free and open to the public.

The comedy show first began in July of 2025, when the owner of the bar asked Lazarus if they were interested in hosting a comedy show at Mr. Nancy’s, which was about to open to the public. After gathering their three close friends – Martini, Ritthaler and Flynn — they decided on a bi-weekly show focusing on Queer and Woman comics.

“So many comedy spaces are very tourist-heavy, like Manhattan vibes,” Ritthaler said. “And getting to do a local show, like most of the people that come to the show live in Ridgewood, it’s nice to have a neighborhood kind of comedy show.”

Aside from comedy acts by Lazarus, Ritthaler and Flynn (Martini was absent), special guests who gave comedy acts included Honey Pluton, Tiffany Huang, Salma Hindy and Ari Kaplan. They all discussed various topics with their comedy act, bringing laughter and smiles to the audience. Each comedian is given a 10-minute set, giving them a chance to try out new material and see how it works.

“We just want it to be a community space and for people to feel comfortable trying stuff out [and] seeing how things work,” Flynn said.
