For the first time in nearly 30 years, The Sound of Music is officially returning to Broadway. The revival will hit the stage at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
To complete the iconic von Trapp family, Lincoln Center Theater is hosting an Open Submission Call. They are currently looking to cast several child roles, and your talented kid could be one of them.
Who they are looking for
The production is casting for the roles of Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta, and Gretl von Trapp. The best part? You do not need any professional experience to audition. Performers of all gender identities are highly encouraged to submit their tapes.
The casting team is specifically seeking New York local hires. All young actors must be at least seven years old by the time rehearsals start on February 1, 2027. Authorization to legally work in the United States is also required.
How to submit your audition tape
If you know someone perfect for the stage, you will need to act fast. Submissions are officially due by September 18, 2026. You can submit your video and find the required musical materials through their official casting form.
Here is exactly what you need to record for your tape:
A quick slate: State your name, height, where you are based, and show a full-body shot.
Age verification: If you are under 18, state your date of birth. Kids auditioning for Marta and Gretl must also verbally confirm they will be seven years old by February 1, 2027.
The song for the boys: If you want the roles of Friedrich or Kurt, prepare the cut of “So Long, Farewell.”
The song for the girls: If you are auditioning for Louisa, Brigitta, Marta, or Gretl, choose to sing either “Do-Re-Mi” or “My Favorite Things (Reprise).”
The scene: Record one side for the character you feel you are best suited for.
