On August 28, 2026, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced an additional $36 million in state funding for victim assistance programs statewide, administered through the New York State Office of Victim Services.

Earlier this year, $53.8 million was invested, bringing the total investment to $88.8 million. With $73.7 million in federal funding, the combined total is $162.5 million.

This investment will fund 284 service providers statewide, including 35 new service providers, to reach more New Yorkers in need. These no-cost programs assist victims and survivors in the immediate aftermath of crime and for as long as they need help to heal and thrive.

I would like to thank Governor Hochul for responding to the bipartisan outpouring of support for NY’s victim services providers. Clearly, the need for these services has outpaced the available funding. These newly allocated funds will help providers avoid drastic staff cuts and the elimination of many vital programs. Governor Hochul’s additional $36 million in state funding delivers critical financial relief to programs across New York and enables the New York State Office of Victim Services to bring new providers into the funding pool:

51 percent of current providers will see a significant increase from their current tentative award amounts,Licensed domestic violence providers will receive $11.7 million more in grant funding,Certified rape crisis centers will receive $11.7 million more in grant funding,Child advocacy centers will receive $4.8 million more in grant funding,And 15 additional programs that were initially not funded will now receive tentative awards.

By delivering the largest single-year investment in victim services in State history, we’re supporting even more vital programs and ensuring more New Yorkers get the help they need. Supporting crime victims and survivors is personal to me – and I’ve met with them to see firsthand the difference these programs make in our communities.
