ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 30-year-old truck driver from New York was arrested Wednesday at an inspection station in Escambia County with a trafficking amount of fentanyl, according to Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson.
Joginder Singh of Bellerose, New York, is being held in Escambia County Jail on $50,000 bond.
According to authorities, an OALE officer flagged the tractor-trailer as it entered Florida and directed it into Station No. 19 for a closer look. A K9 Officer then deployed K9 Mojo for a free-air sniff around the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the cab.
Officers searched and found a clear bag containing individually wrapped powder and pressed pills that had no markings and showed no signs of coming from a legitimate source. Field tests confirmed about 25 grams of suspected fentanyl, estimated to be worth about $5,000 on the street, according to authorities.
“This bust is a direct result of solid teamwork! Officer Soroka’s sharp instincts, K9 Officer Thomas’s expertise, and good boy K9 Mojo all came together to keep dangerous drugs off our streets,” Simpson said.
