MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior golfer Ryan Leach shot 2-under-par on the final day of the New York Harbor Cup to finish tied for 17th place in the Mountaineers’ first competition of the season at Bayonne Golf Club in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Leach recorded rounds of 70-74-69=213 to finish Even par for the tournament. Leach recorded birdies on the final two holes and was -4 in the final nine.
Junior Aidan Dortch nearly posted a Top 25 finish, shooting 69-75-73=217 (+4) to finish tied for 27th place. Junior Nick Turowski was one shot behind Dortch, recording rounds of 71-74-73=218 (+5) to tie for 30th place. Sophomore Jack Michael was +11 (74-73-77=224) while freshman Michael Shivers was 82-77-77=236 (+23). Sophomore Gabe Schmitz competed as an individual and shot 9-over-par with rounds of 72-75-75=222.
West Virginia finished in eighth place with rounds of 284-296-292=872 (+20).
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Sunday and Monday at the Island Resort Collegiate in Bark River, Michigan. Last season, the Mountaineers won the event with a school record 55-under-par score, while Ryan Leach captured the individual title.
