Lindsay Clancy Trial: Inside Patrick Clancy’s New Life in NYC After Killings

As Lindsay Clancy waits for the jury to decide her fate, her now-ex-husband Patrick Clancy is trying to rebuild a life shattered by the deaths of their three children.

In a 2024 interview with The New Yorker, Patrick opened up about his grief, the few keepsakes he treasures and why he believes mental illness changed the woman he married.

“I wasn’t married to a monster,” Patrick told the magazine. “I was married to someone who got sick.”

Lindsay is facing three counts of first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan.

She has admitted to strangling the children inside the family’s Duxbury, Mass., home but has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility.

While prosecutors argue that Lindsay intentionally killed the children and knew right from wrong, her defense maintains that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

How is Patrick Clancy Rebuilding His Life?

In May 2023—four months after his children were killed—Patrick left Massachusetts and moved into an apartment in New York City, according to public records obtained by the New York Post.

When The New Yorker visited Patrick’s Manhattan apartment in 2024, it contained several belongings connected to his children.

Among them were a toy helicopter Dawson received for his final Christmas and pillows fashioned from pieces of the children’s clothing. Patrick also kept a pink, rainbow-patterned blanket on his couch.

He told the magazine that he sometimes still found himself saying, “I have three kids,” before adding, “They are deceased.”

Patrick also took an extended leave from his job at Microsoft after the killings, according to The New Yorker.

As he tried to move forward, he joined a sailing club.

and began training for the Boston Marathon. In April 2024, Patrick completed the race in memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan while raising money for Boston Children’s Hospital.

Patrick filed for divorce from Lindsay in February 2024, and in 2026 married Dr. Rachel Danis, an NYC-based fertility doctor, according to People.

How Did Patrick Clancy Forgive Lindsay Clancy?

Four days after the killings, Patrick posted a statement on the family’s GoFundMe page asking the public to forgive Lindsay.

“The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring,” Patrick wrote. “All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”

Patrick told The New Yorker that his decision to defend Lindsay publicly was partly a response to what he viewed as inaccurate narratives surrounding the case.

“If the prosecutor and the public had gotten it right from the beginning,” he said, “I probably wouldn’t have even written that GoFundMe note.”

Patrick testified at Lindsay’s murder trial on July 27 and July 29, 2026.

During his testimony, he detailed how Lindsay’s mental health progressively deteriorated after the births of their second and third children, saying she had “intrusive thoughts” about harming their kids two months before the Jan. 2023 killings, according to CNN.

What Does Patrick Clancy Say About Lindsay’s Mental Health?

Patrick told The New Yorker that Lindsay’s mental health worsened in the months after Callan’s birth, explaining she struggled with insomnia, lost her appetite and withdrew socially.

As her symptoms worsened, Lindsay sought treatment at several hospitals and mental health facilities. Still, Patrick said no medical provider ever warned him that she could be experiencing postpartum psychosis and acknowledged he’d “never even heard the term until after the kids died.”

Patrick also explained that he did not speak to Lindsay immediately after the killings. When they eventually connected by phone, he said Lindsay told him that she had heard a voice commanding her to kill the children and then herself.

As Patrick recalled, “She did not sound like my wife.”

That conversation reinforced Patrick’s belief that mental illness had overtaken the woman he knew.

Where Does the Lindsay Clancy Case Stand Now?

The jury deciding Lindsay’s fate told Judge William Sullivan on Sept. 1 that it was unable to reach a unanimous verdict after approximately 18 hours of deliberations. Sullivan instructed jurors to continue weighing the case.

If Lindsay is convicted of first-degree murder, she faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. If she is found not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, she would instead be committed to a mental health facility.
