GEDDES, N.Y. — Tuesday was Fire, Rescue & EMS Day at the Great New York State Fair.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli was one of the dignitaries who spoke at the ceremony. He praised first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.

“We honor their memory; we honor their courage and their sacrifice,” said DiNapoli. “Their Incredible commitment to protect the lives of their neighbors and their families. Every firefighter and first responder is the strongest in New York and in our community.”

All active and retired firefighters and emergency responders received free admission with a valid ID.
