Back in 2022, the Saturday Night Live stars turned quite a few heads when they announced they had purchased a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry for a whopping $280,100. Since then, fans have remained pretty confused about the purpose of their unique investment and the two comedians have confessed to feeling some serious buyer’s remorse.
But four years later, Jost and Davidson have finally found an idea befitting their strange investment.
On Thursday, September 17, the pair will turn the John F. Kennedy into the “Snapple Island Ferry,” a free, floating comedy club docked at Pier 17 in Lower Manhattan. Together, the duo will host the one-night-only event, which will feature a 60-minute show with sets by a lineup of rising comedians.
“Turning the ferry into a floating comedy club with Snapple makes more sense than anything else we considered and it still doesn’t make much sense,” Davidson said in a statement. “Either way, we’re giving people a chance to take a break, have a laugh and do something completely ridiculous with us.”

A limited number or tickets will be available for the free event, sponsored by the bodega-favorite beverage brand. They will be released daily at 3 p.m. EST from Thursday, September 3, through Tuesday, September 8, at register.snappleislandferry.com.
As for who will take the stage once the comedy show (figuratively) sets sail, the full lineup has not yet been announced. Names will be revealed on Snapple’s social channels in the lead-up to the event.
To mark the occasion, both Jost and Colin shared videos in collaboration with Snapple, urging fans to check out the event.
“Hey, so you know how Colin Jost and I bought a Staten Island Ferry? Guess what — it’s now a Snapple Island Ferry,” Davidson began his video. He went on to promise “a ton of free Snapple” for attendees. Meanwhile, Jost jokingly compared their ferry to the RMS Lusitania — the British ocean liner that famously sank during World War I.

Even before the floating comedy club idea, Jost and Davidson’s ferry has provided plenty of opportunity for laughter. Davidson quipped about the purchase during his set at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia last year, telling the crowd, “In case you’re wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we’re losing millions on this ferry.”
Two years prior, he joked to Entertainment Tonight that the duo were “in the hole” for their investment.
“I saw a link and sent a deposit and now I’m stuck with a f—ing boat. It’s really funny, dude,” he said in 2023. “This will be a lifelong problem for me and Colin.”

Davidson previously claimed that the duo were “very stoned” when they bought the boat at auction, but Jost has refuted this, saying he was “stone-cold sober” at the time. While the pair initially seemed optimistic — sharing plans to turn it into a hybrid restaurant and event space — progress has been slow to the point where Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson, has suggested they sell the boat for scrap metal. But they have remained persistent.
“If Lorne Michaels has taught us anything, it’s that you never, ever give up,” Davidson said on SNL last year. “Even if everyone says the time has come and Tina Fey is ready to take over.”
