NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (WRGB) — Gov. Kathy Hochul called on the Trump administration Tuesday to restore $87 million in federal counterterrorism funding she said is owed to New York.
Speaking at an event in New York City alongside Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Hochul urged the president and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to release the funds.
Hochul said the Trump administration slashed New York’s homeland security funding by 86% last year, a reduction of $187 million.
She said the president promised to fully restore the funding, but nearly a year later, the state is still waiting.
According to Hochul, the funding pays for intelligence operations, transit security, equipment and training for police departments and sheriff’s departments statewide.
This comes less than two weeks after an attack threat on the New York State Capitol was uncovered.
