The third annual Queens Jazz Trail concluded with its final concert on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Flushing Town Hall (relocated from Astoria Park due to the rain) with the illustrious Jazz singer Lucy Yeghiazaryan.
In honor of Tony Bennett’s centennial, the concert featured covers of his songs and was free and open to the public.

Alongside Yeghiazaryan on vocals, the concert also featured Peter Washington on bass, Greg Ruggiero on guitar and Jacob Smith on drums.

The concert was made possible by the Kupferberg Center of the Arts, in partnership with Flushing Town Hall, the Louis Armstrong House Museum and New York City Parks. Sponsorships included the Howard Gilman Foundation, Resorts World NYC, Northwell Health, Maspeth Federal Savings and AARP New York.
“We have been able to bring this concert series around Queens,” said Jon Yanofsky, director of Kupferberg Center of the Arts. “We’re celebrating and highlighting the incredible history and tradition of jazz and jazz artists who made their homes in Queens. But as important as looking at the past is also looking at the present and future, and that this music is still thriving in the borough.”

Yeghiazaryan is an Armenian-American vocalist and violinist. According to the Kupferberg Center’s website, she is “emerging as a leading voice in contemporary straight-ahead jazz, blending her cultural heritage with the American jazz tradition.” Raised in New Jersey, she began her career at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) Jazz for Teens’ program. Now based in New York City, she has previously performed in venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland. She is also the recipient of grants from the Doris Duke Foundation, Chamber Music America and New York Foundation for the Arts.
