The Brooklyn Nets are offering a unique promotional night during the upcoming 2026-27 season, declaring January 29 as Swamp Dragon night. For the night, the Nets will sport their iconic logo with a twist, adding the Swamp Dragon colors of green and purple.
But who are the Swamp Dragons? And what connection do they have to the franchise?
Over 30 years ago, in 1995, the New Jersey Nets were considering a potential name change, rebranding to the Swamp Dragons. Although the new name, logo and team colors were set to pass a vote by the NBA’s board of governors, Nets co-owner David Gerstein changed his mind at the last minute, putting an end to the potential rebrand. According to NBA insider Zach Lowe, there will be Swamp Dragons merchandise sold at the game; however, it has yet to be revealed whether or not the team will sport different uniforms for the occasion.
