Tornado warning issued for Orleans, Genesee and Monroe counties until 7:30 p.m.

A tornado-producing storm prompted the National Weather Service in Buffalo to issue a Tornado Warning on Tuesday for parts of western New York.

The warning was issued for southeastern Orleans County, central Genesee County and southwestern Monroe County and was set to remain in effect until 7:30 p.m.

Locations listed as impacted include Byron, Batavia, Albion, Le Roy, Byron, Churchville, Oakfield, Riga, Stafford, Bergen and Elba. The warning also included Interstate 90 between exits 47 and 48.

The National Weather Service urged people in the warned area to take cover immediately, moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoiding windows.

People outdoors, in mobile homes or in vehicles were told to move to the closest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
