Voting news has been dominating the airwaves this week. Courts are currently weighing whether the U.S. Postal Service will be allowed to screen mail-in ballots based on information provided by election officials.
This comes as news emerges that a whistleblower told Senator Richard Blumenthal’s office that internal meetings about how the rules the Post Office is drafting could disenfranchise a large number of voters. Additionally, CNN is reporting that the Department of Homeland Security will be looking into voter fraud in multiple states, including New York. States that don’t cooperate could jeopardize federal grant funding.
In the meantime, civic groups in New York including the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, NYPIRG and ReInvent Albany have issued a statement urging candidates for federal and state office to affirm the importance and integrity of the outcome of the state’s upcoming elections.
