AUBURN, N.Y. — A 41-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by multiple vehicles at a busy Auburn intersection Monday night, according to New York State Police.
State Police said troopers responded Aug. 31, 2026, at about 8:04 p.m. to State Route 5 and 20 near State Route 326, also known as Veterans Memorial Parkway, for a report of a bicyclist hit by multiple vehicles.
A preliminary investigation found the man was riding northbound on State Route 326 and tried to cross the westbound lanes of State Route 5 and 20 against a red traffic signal.
Police said a 2017 Dodge Ram was traveling westbound in the right lane of State Route 5 and 20 with a green traffic signal when the bicyclist entered its path. The Dodge struck the bicycle, ejecting the bicyclist into the right rear cab area of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling westbound in the left lane, police said. Police said both vehicles stopped along the north shoulder of State Route 5 and 20.
A third vehicle traveling westbound then approached and moved from the right lane into the left lane to pass the stopped vehicles, police said. The driver did not see the bicyclist in the roadway and struck him, according to State Police.
The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to Auburn Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. State Police said there were no indications of impairment involving any of the vehicle operators.
