DEKALB, N.Y. (WCAX) – Horses that were being taken to slaughter in Canada have been rescued in St. Lawrence County.
New York State Police began an investigation last week after a tip about a Pennsylvania company transporting horses through New York to Quebec to be slaughtered for human consumption.
Wednesday morning, police pulled over a truck and trailer in Dekalb and discovered multiple horses they said were tagged for transport to Canada for slaughter.
The driver, Robert Seitz of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with violating state agriculture law.
All the horses were rescued.
