ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. (WRGB) — New York State Police say multiple horses on their way to Canada for slaughter have been removed from the driver’s custody.
Investigators say they received a complaint on Aug. 28 about horses being transported through New York state to Canada for slaughter. State police say the horses were going to be used for human consumption.
They pulled over a horse trailer on Sept. 2 in St. Lawrence County for a traffic violation. During a safety inspection, they determined the horses inside had been tagged for transport to Canada for slaughter.
Robert M. Seitz of Lewiston, Pennsylvania, is now charged under New York state’s Agriculture and Markets Law.
