I walked into Pane Pasta in the West Village expecting a quick snack, but I ended up in Sicilian food heaven. Chef and owner Vincenzo welcomed us with open arms, and we went completely all out. The energy in this place is electric.

We started with their fresh bombolone. Perfectly round dough gets fried gold, tossed in sugar, and loaded with rich cream. Look at that filling! The chocolate one exploded on the first bite, and the pistachio version coated in crushed nuts is known as the gold of Sicily. Unreal.

Next came their baked anelletti pasta. Ring pasta gets tossed with bechamel, peas, and rich ragu bolognese. They layer it with roasted eggplant, mozzarella, parmesan, and breadcrumbs before baking it to crisp perfection. It is pure perfection.

Then they dropped the calzone fritto. Dough stuffed with tomato, ham, and mozzarella gets deep fried until crispy. It eats like a savory ham and cheese donut. OOZING with cheese!

To finish, we devoured cream puffs smothered in chocolate and a fresh cannoli stuffed to the brim. Absolutely elite.

If you are anywhere near New York City, Pane Pasta is an absolute game-changer. Which treat are you trying first?
