It’s safe to say that Eric Adams had a great birthday.
The former New York City mayor — who turned 66 on Tuesday, September 1 — celebrated his birthday that night with friends in Manhattan, according to a post he shared at 9:30 p.m. ET on X.
“After 22 years in the NYPD, I thought I could spot a setup,” he captioned photos that appeared to be taken at Mimi’s Italian restaurant and piano bar on Second Avenue and 52nd Street, according to the New York Post.
“But Mitch Modell, John Catsimatidis, and Todd Shapiro got me,” he added, referring to the friends he was pictured with. “I walked into a meeting and straight into a surprise birthday cake. Three real New Yorkers, and three very smooth operators!”
The fun must’ve gone on all night because the Post obtained photos of Adams — who earned himself the nickname “Nightlife Mayor” — the following morning in the same white button-up shirt with unmistakable red stripe and dress pants.
Adams’ clothes appeared wrinkled, but his heart seemed full as he listened to music on a Citi Bike seemingly en route home.
In a post shared to X, the Post said that Adams appeared to be doing a classic “walk of shame” in the same outfit from hours earlier.
However, Adams seemed unbothered by the publication’s report, quoting the post and writing in the caption: “Hold on a second. Don’t you all party all night on your birthday?”
Throughout Adams’ tenure as mayor, which lasted from 2022 to 2025, it was reported that he was frequently out and about in the Big Apple.
A 2022 feature story published by New York magazine’s The Cut, titled “Eric Adams, Shouldn’t You Be Working?,” reported that Adams (who sometimes refers to himself in the third person) told the crowd at a New York Fashion Week party: “New York was just a flannel-suit city … and then the mayor comes in and says he’s a nightlife mayor.”
