A massive investigation is underway after police officers shot an allegedly knife-wielding man on the Brooklyn Bridge early Friday morning, it was reported.
The police shooting happened at about 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 4 on the Manhattan side of the iconic span, above the corner of South and Dover streets.
According to preliminary reports on the Citizen app, NYPD officers confronted a knife-wielding man on the bridge while responding to a report of someone in need of assistance. The man then charged at the officers with a knife, leading one or several officers to open fire.
The man’s condition is not yet known, reports indicated. Police officials are expected to outline further details about the shooting at a press conference just before 9 a.m. Friday morning.
In the meantime, the Brooklyn Bridge had been shut down for much of the Friday morning commute; as of 8:35 a.m. Friday, police reported that the bridge had been fully reopened in both directions.
It is the second police shooting this week. On Monday, cops in Times Square shot and killed a woman who allegedly stabbed two people, killing one of them, in an apparently random attack sparked by a psychotic episode.
