Officials: MTA worker struck and killed by train in Bronx

An MTA employee was struck and killed by a train in the Bronx late Thursday night, according to officials.

Moet McCullum, a New York City Transit construction flagger, was hit by a D train at the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station around 11:30 p.m., NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said in a statement.

NYC Transit is the MTA agency that operates the city’s subway and buses.

“This is a difficult day. Last night, we tragically lost a member of our MTA family,” Crichlow said. “I ask that we all keep Ms. McCullum and her family in our thoughts and prayers.”

McCullum was a mother to three children who had been on the job for 11 months, according to TWU Local 100, the union that represents thousands of city transit workers.

The union said her twin sister is a conductor who has worked for the agency for 10 years.

The National Transportation Safety Board is launching an investigation into McCullum’s death.

“The actions that led to this sudden and awful occurrence are still being determined, so we cannot speculate on the details,” TWU Local 100 President John Chiarello said in a statement.

“The NTSB has reached out to me and we will work in conjunction with them, the Track Safety Task Force and the TWU Local 100 Safety Team to piece together what happened,” Chiarello added.

The NYPD said McCullum was 41 years old. She was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, and police said no criminality is suspected in her death.
