A semi-truck crash on the New York Thruway leaves one dead, one injured, causing traffic delays. State Police say there’s no evidence of driver impairment.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — New York State Police say one person is dead after a semi hit a pickup truck on the Thruway Friday morning.

According to Troopers, a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer was driving westbound on the 90 in the town of Newstead, when it crashed into a disabled 2012 Chevy pickup truck that was on the shoulder.

The driver of the pickup, Olive Wesley, 61 of Rochester, died at the scene. A passenger was brought to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries. However, they are listed in serious condition.

The driver of the semi was not hurt in the crash. State police say they did perform a field sobriety tests, but the tractor-trailer driver showed no signs of impairment.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Troop A and Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing at this hour.
