On September 1, 2026, at approximately 9:46 a.m., the New York State Park Police along with New York State Troopers assigned to the Haverstraw barracks responded to a single-car motor vehicle collision on the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound, near Exit 16, in the Town of Stony Point.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2010 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the vicinity of mile marker 31.3. At the time of the collision, it was raining, and the roadway was wet. For reasons still under investigation, the driver exited the roadway into the center median and struck a tree.
The operator and sole occupant was later identified as Christopher A. Rivera, age 19, of Newburgh, NY, and was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing.
