New York State Police say a Rochester man has been arrested after an investigation into the alleged theft of more than $810,000 from three New York school districts.
Police arrested 49-year-old Zacchary E. Weber following an investigation that began last September. Police said the probe started after the Sodus Central School District reported concerns involving funds administered by Health Economics Partners LLC, a company that administered medical and dental benefit accounts for organizations, including school districts. Police said Weber serves as the company’s CEO and president.
Investigators determined funds were allegedly transferred without authorization from accounts belonging to the Sodus Central School District and North Rose-Wolcott Central School District in Wayne County and the Bemus Point Central School District in Chautauqua County to accounts controlled by Health Economics Partners LLC.
A forensic audit conducted by the New York State Police Financial Crimes Unit found the three school districts sustained combined losses totaling $810,695.55, according to police. The audit broke down the alleged losses as:
– Sodus Central School District: $377,757.75
– North Rose-Wolcott Central School District: $181,817.94
– Bemus Point Central School District: $251,119.86
Police said Weber was charged with two counts of second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony, in Wayne County and was transported to the Wayne County Jail for CAP arraignment.
Following his Wayne County arraignment, police said he was charged with second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony, in the town of Ellery in Chautauqua County and was transported there for arraignment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
