BROOKLYN, NY – The Maritime College women’s soccer team began a string of four straight road games on Friday with a matchup at Brooklyn. After the Bulldogs (0-0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, the Privateers (0-1-1) got a pair of second half goals to come away with a 2-2 draw at Brooklyn College Athletic Field.
Brooklyn’s Alyssa Hardison opened the scoring in the 13th minute when she came down the right sideline and converted a through ball from Scarlett Davis. Maritime had several quality scoring chances late in the first half, but Bulldogs goalkeeper April Hartje made the save each time and Brooklyn went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs then doubled their advantage on Gianna DiPronio’s tally in the 60th minute.
In the 65th minute, Eva Garcia (Rockville Centre, NY) got the Privateers on the board with her first of the year off an assist from Emani Abdool (Islandia, NY). It would remain a 2-1 game until Abdool drew a penalty kick in the 78th minute. She stepped up to the spot and put it home, leveling the score at 2-2. Goalkeeper Devon Etienne (Garden City, NY) made sure it stayed that way, notching three late saves to preserve the deadlock.
Etienne (0-1-1) finished with 11 saves, her second consecutive double-digit effort to begin the season. Abdool has now had a hand in all four of Maritime’s goals this season. She scored her third of the year and assisted on Garcia’s tally.
For Brooklyn, Hartje (0-0-1) was credited with four saves. Davis, meanwhile, assisted on both of the Bulldogs’ tallies.
On Wednesday, the Privateers return to action with a 6 p.m. tilt at Lehman (0-0-0). Maritime notched a 1-0 win over the Lightning at Reinhart Field last season.
