A Mediterranean restaurant that closed in Flatbush last year is preparing to reopen in Crown Heights under a new name. The team behind Taste of Akko is relaunching the concept as 2 AKKO, bringing the menu back to Brooklyn after last year’s closure.
The Return of Taste of Akko
Taste of Akko built a following in Flatbush before it shut down last year. The closure followed the illness of the owner’s mother, which pulled the family away from running the restaurant. The same ownership is now behind the relaunch. Rather than returning to Flatbush, the team is setting up in Crown Heights and rebranding the restaurant as 2 AKKO. The owners describe the new spot as a revamped version of the original that keeps the flavors regulars knew from the Flatbush location.
A Mediterranean Kitchen
2 AKKO carries the tagline “Mediterranean Kitchen.” The name points to Akko, the historic port city on Israel’s northern coast, and the concept stays close to that root with Mediterranean and Israeli cooking. Hummus, falafel, fresh salads, and warm pita anchor the style. The restaurant is currently listed as coming soon, and a full menu has not been released.
Crown Heights and the Kosher Scene
Crown Heights has become one of Brooklyn’s central kosher dining neighborhoods, with a steady run of new openings in recent years. 2AKKO adds a Mediterranean option to that mix. The new address sits on East New York Avenue, placing it within reach of the neighborhood’s existing cluster of kosher restaurants.
Opening Details
2 AKKO will be located at 857 East New York Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.
Hours, kosher certification, and an official opening date have not been announced. This post will be updated as those details are confirmed.
